Gilbert Glenn Brown
When you look at Gilbert Glenn Brown’s resume you’ll get only a glimpse of this consummate 21st century “Renaissance Man.” A seasoned performer, a veritable multi-threat with a body of work that crosses several genres: stage, television, screen, voiceover, writer director, producer and director of photography. Gilbert can be seen on the television series “The Inspectors” in the recurring role of Dean Evan Foley. He can be seen in the soon to be released "Best of Enemies" along side Taraji P. Henson and Sam Rockwell in the piviotal role of Howard Clements.
Gilbert has an immense love and respect for theatre, where he began acting, he has performed on various stages between New York and California. His vast theatre experience includes noteworthy performances at The Huntington Theatre, Kansas City Rep, Mark Taper Forum, True Colors Theatre Company, Ebony Repertory Theatre Company, National Black Theatre Festival, The Walter Inge Festival, The Goodman Theatre, The Apollo Theatre, The Matrix Theatre, The Complex, National Black Theatre, The Vineyard, Classic Stage Company, Playwrights Horizons, The Kraine and the Fountain Theatre. His work has garnered critical acclaim as well as a Drama Critics and Ovation Awards and Nominations as well as a nomination for Best Supporting Male in the NAACP Theatre Awards.“ He was also nominated for an AUDELCO for Best Male Performance in a Musical appearing as MLK Jr., in Leslie Lee & Charles Strouse’s MARTIN: BEFORE THE DREAM. He has garnered several awards and acclamations including: 4 NAACP Theatre Award nominations, COLSAC Best Lead Performance Award, along with 2 Los Angeles Drama Critics Awards and LA Weekly Award and 2 Ovation Nominations for Best Ensemble.
Gilbert also has an extensive list of television and screen credits. Some of which include: "The Resident", "Valor", "Good Behaviour", "Drumline 2: A New Beat, “E.R”,“Shark”, “Cold Case”, “Mercy”, “The Shield”, “The OC”, “The Parker’s” and “Roswell” ;“Dreamgirls”, “The Good Fight, “The Eavesdropper” , ”Raising the Heights”, “Romeo & Juliet Revisited” and Night Falls on Manhattan".
He has been honored to work along side some of the best in the business, the likes of Sam Rockwell, Taraji P. Henson, James Woods, Phylicia Rashad, Anika Noni Rose, Alfre Woodard, Michael Chiklis, Peter Gallagher, Hattie Winston, Kene Holliday, Richard Lawson, Dick Gregory and David Caruso, to name a few.
Additionally, he has several commercial and voice-over and television credits under his belt. He has also had 2 stage plays/musicals produced by Mind-Builders Creative Arts Center. He is also the co-creator, producer, writer and director of the forth-coming web series ALL IN THE TIMING. A producer and writer for the comedy short “Half Off”, as well as director, cinematographer on the web series “HTMAST.” He has also shot and directed two episodes of the series of shorts "I am Thespis!"
Gilbert has always been creative, whether it was drawing his own comic books or writing his own stories and plays. He was born and raised in New York City into a family from the island of Jamaica. Always the artist, even during the most difficult of times, while in high school he caught the acting bug on a dare. The Mind-Builders Creative Art Center’s Positive Youth Troupe performed at his high school and he was snagged. This dare proved be the best gamble of his life and may have just about saved it. Mind-Builders; a local community arts center dedicated to the empowerment of youth through the arts. The Positive Youth Troupe gave him the confidence and skills necessary to set his sights on a professional acting career. It instilled in the importance of the arts and it’s ability to transform and elevate the audience. He took those skills and continued his studies at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he received a BFA.
While pursuing his acting career, Gilbert has always managed to stay connected to the education and empowerment of young people and the world through the arts. Whether it's teaching at Columbia College Hollywood, coaching actors or volunteering his time with afterschool programs in southern Los Angeles, Gilbert loves helping to ignite the creative spark in others. He continues to give back to the same group that first gave him his start, The Positive Youth Troupe as a way of repaying what he received as a young, hopeful artist.
